Annual Meeting – Our
Annual Meeting will be held today following worship. We will
introduce new vestry members, present the budget, and provide a “State of the
Parish” report, and take questions from the congregation. Please come out and
participate in the governance of our church.
Free Recycling – The Suffolk Clean Community Commission will host
another of its popular recycling and tire amnesty days on Saturday January 12,

Shrove Tuesday Pancake
Supper –
This year’s Shrove
Tuesday Pancake Supper is just over 1 month away – February 12. Please plan
accordingly to help, if in no other way than to bring friends and eat pancakes.
If you would like to assist in preparing, serving, clean-up, etc. please
contact the office or any one of the Vestry members as soon as you can so we
can start planning in earnest.
Wednesday Night Lenten
Series – As has been our habit
in the past two years we will have a Lenten Series and Soup Supper for the five
weeks between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. If there is any input into what we
study let the Rector know.
Rector’s Absence – The
Rector will be away for Continuing Education from Jan 17 – 22 on retreat with
the Society of Saint John the Evangelist in Massachusetts. In case of emergency,
contact the Senior Warden. The celebrant next Sunday will be The Rev. Julia
Dorsey Loomis.
OneHarvest Orders – The
next distribution is on Saturday, Jan 19. Check at www.ebumc.net for the order
dates. The order dates are on the Ebenezer UMC order form.
Flower Donation Sign-up
Sheet – The Altar Guild has posted
the flower sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Please read the sign-up instructions
also posted in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please contact Lynn
Rose.
Our Thanksgivings – We are collecting tangible statements
regarding our blessings and thanksgivings in the jar in the Narthex.
Wednesday Morning Book
Study – The
Wednesday morning book study will reconvene this coming Wednesday, January 16
and will include a luncheon. When the group returns it will pick up the study
of “The Bible Jesus Read” by Philip Yancy in the chapter on the Psalms. If you
are interested please contact Margaret.
Formation Classes – This coming Sunday we will discuss our Old
Testament reading Isaiah 43:1-7, “Restoration and Protection Promised” from
9:15-10:15 am. Next week’s we will take
a break in the Rector’s absence but will have class the following Sunday. All
are invited to join us for class this Sunday. A reminder; there is nursery
service available during the education hour.
Today’s Psalm – We will sing the portion of the Psalter in
unison. We will use a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical
Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 29 together. The Psalm will
be set to Hymn 524, “I love thy kingdom Lord” (St. Thomas (Williams))
from the Hymnal 1982. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
Thought
for the week – Epiphany: The Wise Men came to Jesus, and bowed down and worshiped him. And
then, “they departed to their country by another way.” Yet how could they ever
be the same again – for they had seen the Christ and they had believed.
