Annual Meeting – Our
Annual Meeting will be held next Sunday following worship. We will introduce
new vestry members, present the budget, and provide a “State of the Parish”
report, and take questions from the congregation. Please come out and
participate in the governance of our church.
De-greening the Church –
Our
church look beautiful for the Christmas season. Thanks to those who pitched in
to make in happen. Now that Epiphany has
started, it is time to remove the greens. TODAY after church we will need
everyone’s help to make this happen. Many hands will make light work.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake
Supper –
This year’s Shrove
Tuesday Pancake Supper is just over 1 month away – February 12. Please plan
accordingly to help, if in no other way than to bring friends and eat pancakes.
If you would like to assist in preparing, serving, clean-up, etc. please
contact the office or any one of the Vestry members as soon as you can so we
can start planning in earnest.
Wednesday Night Lenten
Series – As has been our habit
in the past two years we will have a Lenten Series and Soup Supper for the five
weeks between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. If there is any input into what we
study let the Rector know.
2013 Pledge Drive – Thank you to all who have turned in your pledge
cards; there is still time to return a pledge for 2013.
OneHarvest Orders – The
next distribution is on Saturday, Jan 19. Check at www.ebumc.net for the order
dates. The order dates are on the Ebenezer UMC order form.
Flower Donation Sign-up
Sheet – The Altar Guild has posted
the flower sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Please read the sign-up instructions
also posted in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please contact Lynn.
Our Thanksgivings – We are collecting tangible statements
regarding our blessings and thanksgivings in the jar in the Narthex.
Wednesday Morning Book
Study – The
Wednesday morning book study will take a break until after the New Year. The next
meeting will be held January 16 and will include a luncheon. When the group
returns it will pick up the study of “The Bible Jesus Read” by Philip Yancy in
the chapter on the Psalms. If you are interested please contact Margaret.
Formation Classes – This coming Sunday we will discuss our Old
Testament reading Isaiah 60:1-7, “The Ingathering of the Dispersed” from
9:15-10:15 am. Next week’s class will
discuss our Old Testament reading Isaiah 43:1-7, “Restoration and Protection
Promised.” All are invited to join us for class this Sunday. A reminder; there
is nursery service available during the education hour.
Today’s Psalm – We will sing the portion of the Psalter in
unison. We will use a metrical version of the Psalter from A New Metrical
Psalter by Christopher Webber as we sing Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14 together. The
Psalm will be set to Hymn 126, “The people who in darkness walked” (Dundee)
from the Hymnal 1982. The words and music will be found on a bulletin insert.
Thought
for the week – Word: Like the former prophets, Jesus spoke the word of God; but unlike
them he is the Eternal Word, the Word that “became flesh and lived among us”.
As God’s only Son, he is greater than and distinct from all those who have
preceded him.
