Welcome to St. John's community. We are honored to serve Christ, and to open our doors to all. Please feel free to join us for worship. St. John's can trace its history to the founding of Jamestown. The parish is over 350 years old, and the church building itself has stood for 2 and a half centuries. St. John's saw the American Revolution and served as a camp ground for troops during the Civil War. Through it all, St. John's has been a place of worship and a home for those seeking communion with Christ. St. John's has a rich and abiding history. Today, it is as it was... a place to find and be found by Christ.

Reflection from Sunday November 4, 2012

Greetings again on All Saints Sunday. We have moved into November and fall is upon us. This month looks like it will be a busy month in and around the Parish. We will be looking at our upcoming budget year and fiscal needs. Next Sunday we will work with our Chuckatuck partners to welcome home Lon Bickham after his accident over a year ago at a dinner in town. The following Sunday afternoon it will be Thanksgiving at the community Thanksgiving celebration.

A little closer - we looked at our upcoming civic responsibility with Election day on Tuesday and our Parish's vigil on election day. We had a good turn out today - including a wasp on the altar during the Great Thanksgiving, blessedly I didn't get stung and the wasp didn't die. We also took an in depth look at Jesus' comments to the scribe in the Gospel as supported by the reading from Hebrews. Today's sermon tried to address how God is unchanging yet our understanding of God's demands on us evlove over time. Likewise we cannot simply "love God" we have to love our neighbor and remind ourself that God is near in all of creation.

I invite your comments.
