Opening questions for reflection
- How was Christ present to these different communities?
- How were the different communities being called to spiritual growth and mission?
Points for discussion
- How was the membership of the Christian Cult different than other religions of the day? Especially with respect to initiation and membership.
- How were the churches attributed to Paul formed (regionally and ethnically)?
- What do you think is important for new members to know about the Christian Faith? The Episcopal Church? Any Christian Church?
- What were the distinctive traits of each writer's Community? How might that influence the imagery and story-telling role of the different writers?
- What unifies our community of practice?
- What is the function of oral tradition in Biblical times? In contemporary society?
- What does our community believe about Jesus Christ?
- How does Matthew's story evolve the historic Jewish tradition, moving from simply the Torah to the Torah interpreted through the eyes of Christ?
- What is the importance of rules and order to the development of a community?
- What are the principal issues experienced living together in a parish family?
- How much value is placed on the dissenting or different position in our conversations?
Observation 1: How are we convinced
that the continuation of God is revealed to us in Christ as demonstrated in our
congregation as faithful believers?
Observation 2: How does the faithful
conversation portrayed in the Gospels and Paul provide an image for us to
emulate?
