Welcome to St. John's community. We are honored to serve Christ, and to open our doors to all. Please feel free to join us for worship. St. John's can trace its history to the founding of Jamestown. The parish is over 350 years old, and the church building itself has stood for 2 and a half centuries. St. John's saw the American Revolution and served as a camp ground for troops during the Civil War. Through it all, St. John's has been a place of worship and a home for those seeking communion with Christ. St. John's has a rich and abiding history. Today, it is as it was... a place to find and be found by Christ.

Shrove Tuesday - March 8, 2011

A wonderful celebration of Shrove Tuesday was celebrated at St. John's on March 8. We served a variety of pancakes made by the hand of our expert cook and Senior Warden - Mr. Jim Tankovich. We feasted on three kinds of pancakes: grain and nut wheat-free (spelt and rye) pancakes, grain and nut whole wheat pancakes, and regular pancakes. We also had hand made sausages from Gates County North Carolina along with Bob Evans sausages.

There were a total of 71 people in attendance and we drew from as close as our next-door neighbor all the way to Smithfield and Ward's Corner Norfolk. We also had representation from the three Chuckatuck churches, Oakland Christian Church and Wesley United Methodist Church.

The celebration led us to the beginning of a holy Lenten season.  Come join us during Lent and see what we have to offer - in addition to our wonderful food.
